Media Center Mail for Windows 7/Vista consists of two parts:

 

Setting up Media Center Mail

Before you can read e-mails, you have to configure Media Center Mail first.
You can do this by pressing the Windows Start button, navigating to the menu called OABsoftware / Vista Media Center Mail and clicking the icon called "Vista Media Center Mail Configuration".

When you click this icon, the configuration application of Media Center Mail will appear:

In this window you see an overview of the configuration.

The first thing you can do here is configure the general settings:

  • The interval at which the e-mail should be retrieved from the server(s)
  • The name of the sound file that should be played when new e-mail is received
  • Whether you want a notification to be shown within Media Center, whenever new messages are received
  • The scope of the configuration:
    • Select "myself only" if the configuration should apply to your Windows account only.
      This makes it possible to have different configurations for different users of your Media Center PC.
    • Select "all users" if the same configuration should apply to all users of your Media Center PC.
      You should select this option if you want to be able to use Vista Media Center Mail on a Media Center Extender!

Press the "Apply" button to remember the changes you make in this part of the configuration.
 

Use the buttons in the toolbar to edit the other parts of the configuration:

Press this button to save the configuration.
Use this button to add a new user.
Define a user for each person who wants to read his or her e-mail within Media Center.

When you press this button, you'll see the following:

Here you can specify the following parameters of the selected user:

  • The name of the user
  • The filename of an image which represents the user
Press this button to remove the selected user from the configuration.
By pressing this button, you can add an account for receiving e-mails for the selected user.

When you press this button, you'll see the following:

Here you can specify the following parameters of the selected account:

  • The name or address of the mail server (this must be a POP3 server)
  • The number of the TCP/IP port the mail server uses (mostly this is port 110)
  • Whether the mail server requires an encrypted connection
  • The username for logging onto the POP3 server
  • The password  for logging onto the POP3 server

When you press the "Apply" button, the application will try to logon to the POP3 server, using the parameters you entered.

Press this button to remove the selected account from the configuration.
Press this button to clear the inbox of the selected account.

Don't forget to save the configuration when you're done!
 

Activating Media Center Mail

Before you can make use of Media Center Mail, you have to activate it.
Please do so the first time you start the application.

Using Media Center Mail

With Media Center Mail you can read your e-mail within the Media Center application.
To do so, you should:

  • go to the Start page of the Media Center application
  • select the option called "Accessories"
  • and click the option called "E-Mail"

 

This will open the following page:

Use this page to select the user whose e-mail you want to read, and press the "OK" button on your remote control.

 

Once you've selected the user, you'll see an overview of the mail of this user:

Select the e-mail you want to read, and press the "OK" button on your remote control.

 

Now you can read the e-mail:

You can use the buttons on the left side of this page to view eventual attachments, to mark the message as "unread", to delete the message, or to return to the previous page.
